Thread Lifts

Brown Lift

What are Thread Lifts?

As a person ages the elasticity and suspensory ligaments of the face become lax. This presents in the upper face with a lowered brow and increased hooding of the upper eyelid, in the mid-face with loss of volume through the cheek and in the lower face with jowls and lines around the mouth. The neck can also be involved. A new adjunct to our anti-aging tool box is The Thread Lift - also known as "The Lunch Time Face Lift". The threads used are modified sutures/the same sutures we would use to perform normal surgery. These threads however have a herringbone pattern over the surface which elevates and holds the face in its previous youthful position.

The Surgical Procedure

Thread Lifts can be performed under local or general anaesthetic and is very well tolerated by patients. The fine threads are anchored under the hairline where they are placed to gently pull and return the soft tissues of the face to its previous youthful position. They can be used in the forehead, mid-face, lower third of the face or jowls and neck. We find the greatest success with the mid and lower third of the face in particular to treat jowling. The procedure is very safe and enjoys a significant lower side effect profile.

Notes about Thread Lift Procedures

Thread lifts are recommended for younger and middle aged patients who are not yet ready for a full facelift.  A thread lift is not appropriate for patients with a large amount of loose, excess skin around the face and neck. The best candidates are men and women who are just beginning to experience the effects of aging.  Patients who choose this course of treatment can usually postpone or eliminate the need for facelift surgery.  A thread lift can be combined with Anti-Aging treatments and Facial Fillers by Dr Mooney for optimum results.

What to expect after surgery

Patients have some swelling and mild discomfort. The patient's face is bandaged and these bandages stay in place for 5 to 7 days. Bruising usually resolves within a couple of days and is usually completely resolved at the time of the first consultation at day 5 to 7.  At this time the bandaging is removed and patients wear a soft dressing at night for a couple of weeks.

Patients can often feel quite tight in the mid and lower third of the face in the initial days post surgery and this gently and generally resolves. The highlight of threads is that if the patient is dissatisfied with the outcome they can be easily removed and more over if the patient likes the effect further threads can be added as time goes by. Having a Thread Lift does not preclude having more formal surgery such as a face lift in the future
